The Foundation will hold the Education Webinar titled “From Gifted Education to Talent Development” on 18 June 2021 Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm to share good practices and educational ideals.
We are honored to have Professor NG Tai-kai, Chair Professor of Physics, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Former Executive Director, Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE), as the Guest Speaker.
Prof. Ng is an expert in theoretical condensed matter physics. He joined the Physics Department of HKUST in 1991 and was appointed as Chair Professor of Physics in 2014. Prof. Ng is a pioneer of promoting gifted education in Hong Kong. He founded HKUST's Center for the Development of the Gifted and Talented and served as the Director for many years. In 2014, he took leave from HKUST and served as the Executive Director of HKAGE for more than 6 years. On completion of his contract with HKAGE, Prof. Ng returned to HKUST in December 2020 and continues his service as Chair Professor of Physics in HKUST.
In the talk of 18 June 2021, Prof. Ng will share his views and recommendations about talent development in Hong Kong based on his experiences of promoting gifted education in the last decade. He will refer to the world’s current expectation for talents, Israel’s policies of talent development and explain the importance of catering for the social-emotional needs of gifted students, infusion of affective education in advanced learning programmes and a systematic approach to provide mentorship for the gifted students.
