“Green’s Cool!” Project – Paint the Town Green

College
29 Jun 2015

On 29th June, our S3 students started two projects to contribute to protecting the environment in Hong Kong, including the painting of glass recycling bins and rooftop painting.

Co-organised with Green Glass Green, the city’s only non-governmental organisation for glass recycling, the S3 students painted the collection bins with designs produced by future Visual Arts students. The painted bins are to be sent to several glass collection points in the Southern District to serve the community.

The whole form, together with their class tutors, contributed and painted 13 recycling bins in total.

Meanwhile, the three-layer rooftop coating painted by the students serves as heat insulation as well as decoration for our school. A contest of the best design for the homeroom block’s rooftop was held and Jacqueline Lam of Laozi was the winner. S3 students have finished applying the primer, the reflective white layer which lowers the roof’s temperature by 5 degrees Celsius, and the painting of the design is now in progress. When it is finished, the energy used on air-conditioning in our school will be reduced and the beautified rooftop will be visible in Google Earth.

This rooftop painting project is sponsored by the Environment and Conservation Fund of the Environmental Campaign Committee.
