Chinese Culture Week - A Talk by Ms. Wu Yin Ching
As part of Chinese Culture Week, HKUGA College recently hosted a series of activities aimed at promoting Chinese culture, including a lecture by renowned Hong Kong author and poet, Ms. Wu Yin Ching. The event, held on 9th February 2023, saw Ms. Wu share her personal writing journey with students, under the theme "Life and Writing".
Ms. Wu's essays are known for their easy-to-read and unique style, drawing inspiration from her own life experiences and connecting with literature. Prior to the lecture, students had the opportunity to read Ms. Wu's related works, such as "Bunk Beds" and "Prince Edward Road", gaining a deeper understanding of the author's background and creative ideas.
During the lecture, Ms. Wu shared how she gained an appreciation for the unique charm of the Chinese language through her school education, reading literature, and writing columns, and how this sparked a strong interest in literary creation. Ms. Wu also shared with students the meaning of learning Chinese and encouraged them to use their spare time to read Chinese books, increase their language knowledge, and improve their higher-order thinking skills through mastering their mother tongue.
The event was well-attended, with students gaining valuable insights into the art of writing and a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture.
