Round-table Conference (3) - The Strategies for Hong Kong’s Post-secondary Education System

The topic of the conference was "The Strategies for Hong Kong's Post-secondary Education System", which was co-organized with Business & Professionals Federation of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Ideas Centre, HKUGA, Governance in Asia Research Centre of the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Policy Research Institute and The Roundtable. Over 60 participants attended the Conference, including senior executives and lecturers from various tertiary and continuing education institutions.

 

The guest speaker, Mrs. Laura M. Cha, Chairman, University Grants Committee introduced the major views and recommendations of the recent report by UGC on “Aspirations for the Higher Education System in Hong Kong”. Mrs. Cha agreed that the HKSAR Government should develop a long-term plan for the future development of local higher education.

 

After her speech, the two discussants, Prof. Ng Ching-fai, President, Beijing Normal University – Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, and Dr. David Y K Wong, President, The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, and Chief Executive, Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong, made their comments. The other participants eagerly exchanged their views in the discussion session on the issues of the quality assurance of Associate Degree programs, university cooperation with the mainland, and the internationalization of tertiary institutions.
